Job Description

A restricted program in Reston, Virginia is looking for a Unix/Linux Engineer who possesses substantial hands-on experience working on Unix/Linux servers, requires minimal supervision, takes initiative, able to work with fellow engineers, able to troubleshoot and isolate problems, clearly communicate findings and solutions, and able to take a comprehensive system view.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the operations of software applications in a 24/7 production environment. The individual must excel at troubleshooting issues across multiple environments (development, integration, test, and production). The focus environment will be the customer production environment as this is a service oriented position.

Candidate will document procedures, processes, configurations, and solutions.
Candidates must possess strong written and oral communication skills and be able to interface directly with software developers, verification engineers, system engineers, information security engineers, management, and application end users. Responsible for the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the Enterprise Network (Production) infrastructure consisting of multiple Applications, including cloud based.

This position is for 3rd shift (Nights) and will require weekend work.


Basic Qualifications

Current TS/SCI with polygraph required
Provide support for applications to ensure applications perform smoothly, without incident, and operate efficiently considering immediate and long-term project goals.
Provide documentation/briefings regarding application administration and system design.
Provide documentation and/or briefings may be presented to internal team members as well as team members from external organizations.
Support provided to the applications will take into consideration the application’s overall project schedules and performance requirements to ensure timelines and requirements are met.
Support provided must be in-line with the project’s organization goals and objectives.
Provides input to solutions for complex systems requiring collaboration across project teams
Utilizes knowledge of industry best practices for application deployments in complex environments to ensure applications run smoothly and without incident.
Minimum of 5+ years Unix/Linux experience (comfortable with using command line)
Working knowledge of SQL. Apache, XML/JSON
Proficient with scripting languages
Must be willing to work weekends

Preferred Qualifications

Windows administration experience
Experience and understanding of Java web applications
Experience relating to Ruby on Rails web applications
Experience with Cloud based integration
Familiar with LDAP, Apache Tomcat, BlueCoat, SAN/NAS storage
Working knowledge of virtualization
